About Me

Hi friends! My name is Katie Krejci, MS, RD, IFNCP and I’m a Registered Dietitian (RD) & homesteader who is passionate about eating REAL food, becoming self-sufficient and doing things the old fashioned way. My husband, Ryan & I bought our first home in 2007 on a tiny city lot in Kansas City. After a few years… our entire yard had been converted into a garden and orchard. We knew we needed more.

Fast forward to 2013 when we purchased our dream 5 acre property in eastern Minnesota! Over the years, we expanded the gardens, built a poultry palace (yes, that’s what we call it!), identified wild medicinal plants, created a pastured poultry operation and much more.

Most recently (June 2023), we packed everything and moved to our NEW 240-acre homestead in the north woods of Minnesota. We are carving out our off-grid homestead from scratch and couldn’t be more excited about this next big phase of our self-sufficiency journey. Make sure to follow along on Instagram and YouTube to see what we’re up to!

I became a Registered Dietitian (RD) in 2010 and completed my master’s degree in 2014. For 11 years I worked in large metro hospitals primarily focused on trauma, GI surgery and even placing feeding tubes. However, I finally came to terms that this wasn’t the right fit for me. Conventional medicine is too focused on treating rather than healing. I wanted to actually heal people, not manage symptoms.

In 2021, I quit my hospital job and completed further schooling through the Integrative & Functional Nutrition Academy to learn how to fix issues from the root cause. I now work at a virtual functional nutrition clinic and have been loving the change! However, something was still missing…

I was still too far downstream in people’s health journey. I needed to get upstream and help guide people in a lifestyle that prevents health issues from occurring in the first place. That’s where The Homesteading RD was born. It’s in this space that I can help people learn how to grow their own food, develop healthy soil, raise animals the old-fashioned way, and live a toxin-free, simple life. Something beautiful happens when you slow down and find purpose in the little things. Join me!
